In partnership with our contractor Equans, we organised courses to help residents of the Aylesbury who want to get into construction.
This initiative saw five residents from the Aylesbury Estate take part in health and safety level 1 training in construction.
The course is a crucial step for these individuals to then get into construction. Passing it earns them a voucher code from Equans to take the CSCS card test for free. This card is a fundamental requirement for anyone wishing to work on a construction site, so marks the beginning of their journey into the industry.
When asked why she wanted to do this course and how she found it, one of our residents, Ibukun Oladipupo, said:
“It's all about protecting lives and ensuring a safe working environment. What inspired me in taking that path was the desire to help others and my interest in technical and regulatory aspects of the field. I found the course well informed and well understood. It is such a solid foundation to build on.”
Another resident, Jeronovie Do Santos, said he completed the course so he could renew his CSCS card and said it was “good, fairly easy and simple.”
This initiative not only provides essential skills but also opens doors to employment opportunities. By completing it, residents could progress further, once they have their CSCS card, to complete a site management course. This training program represents a significant milestone in their path towards a promising career in construction.
