Our work in June to clean up Longridge Road has won first prize at the Brighter Kensington & Chelsea Awards.
Back in the summer we were contacted by councillor Linda Wade, who wanted to raise awareness and get some volunteers for a ‘clean up and green up’ event at Earls Court on 29 June. The aim was to get residents involved in a day of planting to encourage community-building there, which the residents’ association has been working on for some time.
We arranged for materials such as soil and gravel to be provided on the day and we had both resident and staff volunteers come along.
Other partners who helped out on the day and gave donations included Rassells Nurseries, TLC estate agents and the Volunteer Centre Kensington and Chelsea.
It was a truly inclusive event for residents of all ages and an opportunity to collaborate and improve attitudes towards where we live and work. As you can see from the pictures, the gardens looked wonderful and we really think we made a lasting difference.
We were delighted to then find out the event won first prize for community effort in the centre of the borough at the Brighter Kensington and Chelsea awards.
The event was held on Monday 4 November – in celebration of the community activities that have been taking place all over the borough.
