Last month’s special landmark was celebrated with a family day involving residents and local businesses at the estate’s Community Hub.
Helen Mullings, a resident’s daughter, is founder of Nourished Routes and was delighted to show her achievements over the past year in bringing the community together at the west London estate.
The aim of Nourished Routes is to inspire children and young people to lead healthier, more active and mindful lives by coaching them in cooking and nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being. Residents of Factory Quarter have benefitted hugely from Helen’s hard work in offering afterschool activities for families.
The day was full of fun with Taekwondo, street dance and family Zumba classes all run by residents living at Factory Quarter. There was also face painting, arts and crafts as well as food from local businesses, Burnt and Gails.
Abi & Fam, a business we’ve supported for many years, made branded Nourished Routes bags for residents to get their hands on.
Nourished Routes have done an amazing job over the past year of engaging with the community and local businesses. With our support they have delivered a variety of wellbeing and food education programmes through after school clubs, workshops, seed sowing and family community engagement events.
Helen says: “Notting Hill Genesis have been so supportive in helping Nourished Routes to work with so many children and young people in our first year. Combined with guidance from Lydia at Creative Stripes, we have achieved more than we ever thought possible and are excited to help more children and families become healthy and happy!”
With the help of our places and estates team at Factory Quarter Nourished Routes have been working towards becoming more financially independent. Helen has built up the brand with capacity building support and signposting from Creative Stripes and secured a contract to become a wraparound care provider for a local primary school starting in September next year. This means Nourished Routes has a stronger business strategy and can impact the local community even more.
Owner and business and marketing strategist at Creative Stripes, Lydia Berman, said:
"I’m incredibly proud to see Helen's vision for Nourished Routes come to fruition. Her hard work and resilience is clearly paying off. Working alongside Helen has been a true pleasure and her dedication to the local community is inspiring.
“I'm proud we have played a small role in her success, and I look forward to continuing to support Helen going forward.”
Adebisi Sunmonu, social and economic investment programme lead for Notting Hill Genesis, added: “We’re delighted with all the hard work Helen has done and the positive effect it’s had on our residents. Together with Creative Stripes they’ve provided even more social value to our communities.”
