Amazing resident creations feature among Portobello wall-art

Two of our residents have had paintings displayed as part of a new public art installation at Portobello Wall, west London.

The artists’ creations form part of 15 artwork panels, stretching along the brick wall linking two of the most vibrant and well-known market areas in the city: Portobello Road and Golborne Road.

The project is a collaboration between us, The Muse gallery at 269 Portobello Road, the wall owners and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It aims to showcase local creativity and talent across London’s streets, creating a visual link between the two unique markets, as well as enhancing the local area.

Notting Hill Genesis resident Muba Bamgbala, whose work is included in the outdoor gallery, said: “Since childhood I’ve enjoyed drawing and illustrating, later taking up painting. As an artist, knowing my creation is being seen by the public in such a well-known space is an incredible feeling, especially being displayed somewhere as iconic as Portobello Road.”

Muba was nominated and subsequently selected to have his artwork displayed as part of the project. He added: “It’s been great to be involved and I feel proud to be part of a prominent community-led project.”

Also included in the exhibition is a piece by fellow resident Wendy Helm, a talented fine art painter whose work has previously been shown as part of our 2016 Dolly Mixtures and 2022 Unlocked resident art exhibitions.
