Appliances and accessories guidance

Welcome to your new home. Below is some key information regarding appliances and accessories. We hope it helps.

Switched fused spurs for appliances

Switched fused spurs are located above the worktop in your kitchen, and the single sockets under the counter for your appliances are controlled. If you find that an appliance is not working check that this switch is on illustration of a switched fused spur.

Mira advance flex extra shower units

The shower can be isolated in the event of an emergency using either the pull cord isolator or switched isolator. Isolators are there for emergency use and not day-to-day operations of your shower unit please use the button on the front of the shower unit to switch the unit on or off. This ensures the Bluetooth link to the pump if there is one that keeps a connection.

Examples of isolator switches:

Bluetooth shower pumps

The electric shower will usually be connected to a Bluetooth shower pump.  If the shower is isolated by the pull switch or standard switch isolator it will disconnect the Bluetooth pump connection.  When switching the isolator back on please ensure you wait at least 10 seconds for the Bluetooth connection to re-establish before operating the shower unit, failure to do this could lead to pooling of water or a failure of the shower pump to operate. If your electric shower is located over a bath, you will not have a shower pump and the above will not be applicable.

Electric fuseboard/Consumer unit

Your fuseboard controls the electrical circuits in your home. I.e. your lighting, sockets, smoke detectors, cooker and extractor fans. If an appliance becomes faulty, it can trip out the RCD unit on the fuseboard (highlighted in yellow and illustrated below, this switch may have a yellow, grey or black button located on the top front of the switch).

If this happens, please unplug all items throughout your property and switch off switched spurs for items like washing machines and fridge freezers. Once you have unplugged or switched off all items, please switch back on the RCD unit in the fuseboard. If it trips straight away and everything is unplugged then an electrician will need to attend to investigate further.  If the switch stays up then plug in the items previously unplugged one at a time until the RCD trips this will locate the faulty appliance.

RCBO fuseboards/Consumer Units

You may have an RCBO fuseboard instead of the RCD unit.  If an appliance becomes faulty, it can trip out the RCBO unit on the fuseboard (this switch normally has a black button located on the top front of the switch). If this happens, please unplug all the items throughout your home and switch off switched spurs for items like washing machines and fridge freezers.

Once you have unplugged or switched off all items, please switch back on the RCBO unit in the fuseboard if it still trips straight away with everything unplugged, then an electrician will need to attend to investigate further.  If the switch stays up then plug in the items previously unplugged, one at a time until the RCBO trips, this will locate the faulty appliance.

Extractor fans

There are two different types of extractor fans fitted in Notting Hill Genesis homes both types of fans have the same trickle and boost function. Trickle and boost fans are designed to constantly trickle at a slow rate, this is more efficient in removing humidity in the air and will minimize the risk of damp and mould growth. The extractor fans can be boosted by pulling the pull cord located on the fan. The cost to run the fans is minimal.  We advise you to use the boost function when using the shower/bath to increase the extraction rate of the fan and minimise any damp and mould growth.

If your home has an in-built ventilation system, you will not have extractor fans and instead will have vents in place. They will look like this below.

Appliance connections

The connections of your appliances (i.e Washing machines, cookers and other kitchen appliances) are your responsibility to fit and you should instruct a qualified professional to undertake this for you.
